TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Housing Ministry representative on Tuesday assures the public that football stadiums that were previously appointed to hold the FIFA U-20 world cup have met the requirements to be used for the U-17 world cup slated for November 10 - December 2.

“It’s very much ready for use and we have handed over the management of the stadiums to field managers, and also the required training,” said the Ministry’s Cipta Karya Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure Essy Asiah on June 27.

Essy reiterated the fact that prior to the U-20 World Cup, FIFA officials had already conducted final inspections of the stadiums and were said to be satisfied by what they witnessed. However, Asiah is yet aware of which stadiums are going to be used for the U-17 world cup.

The Public Works and Housing Ministry was previously ordered to prepare 25 football stadiums for the U-20 Cup with five of them being used for the actual tournament and the remaining 20 stadiums for training purposes. However, FIFA eventually canceled the event in Indonesia due to domestic issues that arose ahead of the Cup.

Earlier in April, Peru failed to achieve the goal of hosting the U-17 world cup due to infrastructure uncertainty even though Peru was named as a host nation four years prior.

Indonesia was then set to host the 2023 U-17 World Cup through a joint decision at the FIFA Council meeting which was held at the FIFA Headquarters, in Zurich, Switzerland.
