TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in private at the State Palace on Monday, June 26, 2023. The meeting is said to be a spontaneous meeting initiated by the President. Both men met briefly for roughly 30 minutes and talked mainly about politics.

“There were talks about politics, but it was just a general discussion,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo said that he was asked by the President about his future political plans but refused to respond to questions about his candidacy in the 2024 Presidential Election.

He also revealed that the brief meeting mentioned geopolitical issues as he also presented his report on his recent European visit and hinted that the two men are closely observing developments related to the war in Ukraine.

“The President gave several directions and I think we will indeed carry out his orders,” said the Gerindra Party chairperson.

This follows a previous meeting where Prabowo Subianto met President Jokowi on the sidelines of the Head of State's visit to Malaysia on June 7. News of the meeting spread after the spokesman for the Minister of Defense, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak shared a video of the meeting between the two.
