TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Short and localized moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over the West Java province from June 19 to June 25, according to the latest weather forecast by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Regions affected by the wet weather are expected to gradually reduce but will still likely affect regions such as Bogor, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Bandung, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Banjar, and the coastal region Pangandaran on June 20.

BMKG’s head of climatology station Rakhmat Prasetia said there are a number of factors that will affect the rain cloud formation in the next week over West Java, one of which is the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) that is expected to remain active early into this week.

A cyclonic circulation is also still observed in the Indian Ocean southwest of Banten at the beginning of the week which formed a shift in wind direction around the West Java region.

One week prior, the BMKG West Java Climatology Station recorded heavy to extreme rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the areas of Depok City, Bogor Regency, Sukabumi Regency, Cianjur, West Bandung, Kuningan, Karawang, Subang, Sumedang, Garut, and Tasikmalaya.
