TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday denied that the graft inquiry that incriminates Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo is politically motivated. The anti-graft agency insists that the corruption case is purely a legal issue.
“Stop assuming and creating the narrative that KPK is being politicized. That is not the agency’s territory,” said KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri on Thursday, June 15, 2023. “KPK serves its purpose as a law enforcer.”
As reported previously, the former Law and Human Rights Minister Denny Indrayana claims he received a tip suggesting a corruption case is being mobilized incriminating a state minister with the initials SYL, which refers to Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
Denny argued that the case is intentionally meant to hamper the political party coalition mainly comprising opposition parties, KPP, and its future presidential candidate Anies Baswedan. Members of this coalition include NasDem Party, Democratic Party, and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
“Those being targeted are yet again opposition figures. A minister with the initials SYL. The aim is clear, it is to brother the KPP coalition and ruin Anies Baswedan’s chances as a presidential candidate,” said Denny in his statement on June 14, 2023.
Based on information Tempo received, the initial investigation of the corruption inquiry has named three suspects Syahrul Yasin Limpo, agriculture ministry secretary-general Kasdi Subagyo, and the director of agriculture equipment director Muhammad Hatta.
