TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Jakarta Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Agriculture (KPPP) Agency conducted a test on the water quality of Lake Sunter following mass fish death in the area in tandem with the Technical Service Unit of the Center for Fisheries Production, Inspection and Certification (UPT PPISHP) and Sunter Jaya subdistrict.

“This check follows up on the resident's viral video regarding the large number of dead fish at the location last Wednesday, June 7,” North Jakarta KPKP Agency Head Unang Rustanto said in a written statement, on Friday, June 9, 2023.

According to him, the test is commenced by taking water samples in several parts of the lake. “The temporary results of the physical test for water quality are good. However, the chemical content will be checked further at the laboratory of UPT PPISHP,” he explained.

Unang said the mass fish death can be caused by several factors, such as extreme weather changes and waste. Yet the possibility of fish being affected by extreme weather changes in the lake is extremely small.

“Let’s wait for the laboratory result. Hopefully, it will be complete in a few days. But if it is triggered by factory waste, we will cooperate with the Environmental Agency to follow up [the case,” he remarked.

Unang also said that the current condition of Lake Sunter in North Jakarta has returned to normal, and the authorities did not discover dead fish in the waters.
