TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of workers staged a demonstration on Monday, June 5, 2023, at the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue Area, Central Jakarta. President of the Labor Party and Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal, stated that the rally is aimed at overseeing the trial for a judicial review of Job Creation Law or Law No. 5 of 2023 at the Constitutional Court.

"This is the second trial, which is to revise the contents of the lawsuit," Iqbal said during the action.

Iqbal confirmed that the protest will be carried out for 25 days simultaneously across Indonesian regions. Similar protests will be held in Banten (June 6), Gedung Sate Bandung (June 7), Semarang (June 9), and East Java (June 14), as well as other cities until July 20.

"Around 30 provinces will host the protest for 25 days,” Iqbal said.

The Labor Party and trade union organizations will voice four demands in this action. First, revoke the omnibus law on the Job Creation Law. Secondly, reject the Health Bill. Thirdly, pass the Bill on the Protection of Domestic Workers. Fourthly, revoke the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 5 of 2023.

“In addition to the four demands, the Labor Party will also voice two political issues, namely the revision of the parliamentary threshold of 4 percent of valid national votes must be interpreted as 4 percent of the number of the DPR (legislative) seats and revoke the presidential threshold of 20 percent,” Iqbal underlined.

Based on Tempo's observation, hundreds of workers started to gather at IRTI Monas at 10:30 Jakarta time and then conducted a long march to the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue. They held speeches from labor representatives and visited the Constitutional Court to oversee the trial for the judicial review of the Job Creation Law.
