TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno warned the public not to fall into Coldplay concert ticket scams online which are currently on the rise. According to him, some irresponsible parties exploit people’s high enthusiasm to commit fraud.

“I call on all people to be careful not to fall for fake tickets and ensure [to purchase a ticket from] valid sources,” the minister said at the State Palace area, Central Jakarta, Monday, May 22, 2023.

He also appealed to people not to borrow money from online lenders to buy the concert tickets. People must measure their financial ability if they want to watch the concert.

“Because [it is feared] that many will not be able to pay back [the loan] and end up having problems later. So, if you can't afford to watch it, don't force it. And maybe you can enjoy the concerts of domestic creative economy actors,” Sandiaga said.

Revenue from international concerts is estimated to hit Rp162 trillion

Sandiaga said public enthusiasm to watch the British band perform in Jakarta on November 15, 2023, is extremely high. It was recorded that 1.7 million people competed to get the tickets online during the general sale and 1.5 million people during the pre-sale, including foreign tourists.

Throughout 2023, Indonesia will hold 3,000 events. From international concert events, the government targeted to book Rp162 trillion or US$10 billion. “This will open up business opportunities and the goal of creating jobs in the tourism and creative economy sector of 4.4 million jobs can be achieved. We are totally confident,” Sandiaga Uno concluded.
