Indonesian Minister Hopes Coldplay to Add One More Concert Day

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, responded to the high public interest towards the Coldplay concert at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on November 15, 2023. Seeing the huge public interest in this concert, Sandiaga admitted that he was working on getting Coldplay to add to their concert schedule in Indonesia.

"For Coldplay fans, please be patient. We're attempting to make them not only have a one-day concert, but more. At least add one more day. Do you agree?" He said on his Instagram account @sandiuno on Thursday, May 18.

He further said that he was thrilled to see the growth of this industry in Indonesia. Sandiaga viewed that this condition will lead to more business opportunities and jobs for the creative industry.

Sandiaga Joins Coldplay Ticket War

He also shared his experience hunting for a Coldplay's Music of the Spheres concert ticket. Sandiaga admitted that did not get the pre-sale ticket on Wednesday, May 17.

"It is even hard for me to buy [the tickets] for my family, really, no joking!" Sandiaga said.

He denied an issue saying that he gives out Coldplay concert tickets, asking the public to be more careful if any party on his behalf offered the ticket. "That's not true! How can I give people [the tickets], my child doesn't even get a ticket yet," said Sandiaga.

Previously, the minister said that he asked the promoter of the Coldplay concert, PK Entertainment, to add one more concert day in Jakarta due to the huge interest in the concert among the Indonesian public.

If Coldplay adds one more concert day, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry will help to facilitate. However, he reminded the people not to put a high hope, considering the tight schedule of the British band.

Coldplay Adds Concert Days in Australia, Taiwan

According to the minister, Coldplay's Jakarta show promoter, to this day, still trying to get one more concert day. Especially after Coldplay decided to add a second day for shows in Perth, Australia, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Citing Coldplay's official Twitter account, the concert in Perth will be held on November 18 and 19.

"Due to incredible demand, a second Perth show has been added for November 19," Coldplay tweeted on Monday, May 15.

Coldplay's Jakarta concert ticket selling will be reopened on May 19. There are 11 categories with prices ranging from Rp800,000 to Rp11 million, excluding tax.

Besides Indonesian concertgoers, Minister Sandiaga Uno predicted around 10,000-12,000 foreign tourists will visit Jakarta during the Coldplay show. His office recorded hotel reservations at the GBK areas on November 15, 2023, reached 98 percent.
