TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - A magnitude 4.1 earthquake hit the capital city of Jakarta, specifically in East Jakarta on May 17 at 16:50 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported.
The agency stated that the center of the quake was merely 4 kilometers Southeast of East Jakarta from a depth (hypocenter) of 313 kilometers.
Head of BMKG earthquake and tsunami center Daryono confirmed that the temblor was classified as a deep focus earthquake.
The source of the quake, based on the agency’s observation, came from the subduction between the Indo-Australia Plate slab and the Eurasian Plate located beneath West Java.
“This quake is not harmful and there is nothing to worry about,” he said.
