TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno stated that the upcoming Coldplay concert in Jakarta started to present positive impacts, especially on hoteliers. He noted that hotel bookings in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium area of Central Jakarta on November 15, 2023, have reached 98 percent.

“We support the concert because it also supports Jakarta as the best MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions) destination in Asia,” Sandiaga said at his office in Central Jakarta, Monday evening, May 15, 2023.

According to him, there are still many choices of hotels available in West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and North Jakarta. The ministry recorded that hotel occupancy in the regions has only reached 40-50 percent on the concert date.

Sandiaga Uno also claimed that he had gathered hotel entrepreneurs to take advantage of this momentum. Moreover, the British band’s Asia tour is only held in four cities, viz. Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Kaohsiung, and Tokyo.

The former deputy governor of Jakarta instructed hoteliers to provide the best service for visitors and ensure the quality of its human resources by providing training given that concertgoers are among the group of critical tourists in giving ratings and comments, especially on social media.

“So make sure to provide the best service so that people after the Coldplay concert describe the natural beauty of Indonesia and the friendliness of the Indonesian people,” he emphasized.

The government targeted 10,000-12,000 foreign tourist arrivals for the show. Sandiaga said he received many requests for tickets and recommendations for places to stay from his colleagues who are businessmen abroad.

Sandiaga Uno further estimated that the economic impact could exceed US$20 million-25 million. Due to the immense enthusiasm for the Coldplay concert in Jakarta, he talked of the possibility of one more day show to the promoter. “I have told the promoter, if they want to add one more day, we will help facilitate it,” he said.
