TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo said Indonesia is one of the countries with the fastest acceleration of the digital financial economy. He also estimates that electronic money transactions in the country could reach Rp495 trillion this year.

Speaking at the opening of the Indonesian Digital Finance Festival at the Jakarta Convention Center on Monday, May 8, Perry said that Bi's own digital payment facility—the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard or QRIS—is now available in traditional markets to houses of worship.

Perry said that the total QRIS users this year reached 45 million people, with more than 80 percent being MSME actors.

The central bank also recorded that e-commerce transactions could reach Rp533 trillion. In fact, Perry added, digital banking services can reach more than 64,000 transfers, as well as other transactions.

According to Perry Warjiyo, since 2019 BI is committed to making the digital payment system the epicenter of Indonesia's digital financial economy. BI has also released the BI Fast, which until now transactions have reached almost Rp1 billion per day.

Today, the government plans to connect BI Fast with national payment gateways and other digital payment system infrastructure. Perry said the central bank has consolidated with the Indonesian payment industry in order to connect BI Fast with marketplaces and e-commerce platforms, in order to establish a new unicorn in Indonesia.
