TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rain showers with lightning and strong winds are set to hit parts of Jakarta today, May 4, as the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of thunderstorms.

From the afternoon until the evening, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta will be drenched in rain, lightning, and strong winds.

“Beware of rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in parts of West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta in the late afternoon,” the forecaster wrote in a statement on its official website, on Thursday, May 4.

According to the agency, the skies in most areas of the capital in the morning will be cloudy, while the Thousand Islands will start the day with drizzles.

The light rain will then move to East Jakarta and North Jakarta in the afternoon, while the weather in other areas will be partly cloudy.

In the evening, the rain intensity in West Jakarta will likely rise to thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands will be showered with light rain. For South Jakarta and East Jakarta, BMKG forecasted cloudy weather.

Jakarta's temperature on Thursday was estimated to be in the range of 24-29 degrees Celsius with a humidity level of 80-95 percent.
