Police Investigate Death of Athlete David Jacobs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 1 Jakarta spokesperson, Eva Chairunisa, stated that the police are still investigating the cause of the death of athlete David Jacobs.

Before Dian David Michael Jacobs, a table tennis athlete, draw his last breath at the hospital at 03:30 on Friday, April 28, 2023, he was previously found unconscious near the train tracks at Gambir Station - Juanda Station on Thursday night.

“The police are now conducting an investigation and the station authority is very open in providing information,” Eva said in a written statement, Friday, April 28, 2023.

The station authority will continue to coordinate with the police regarding the cause of the para-table tennis athlete lying unconscious on the side of the railroad tracks between Gambir Station - Juanda Station KM 4+700 at 21:22 on Thursday.

“When the victim was found, he was still unconscious and the officers immediately evacuated him by taking him to Husada Hospital, Central Jakarta, using the station’s ambulance,” Eva explained.

Until now, the reason why David Jacobs was unconscious on the side of the railroad tracks is still being investigated. Police personnel are still checking the site.

The man who was born on June 21, 1977, is a para-table tennis athlete who has a myriad of achievements, including two bronze medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games for the class 10 individual number.

David Jacobs also bagged three golds at the Asian Para Games in 2014 in Incheon (class 10 individual) and 2018 in Jakarta (class 10 individual and team).
