TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) declared an extreme weather alert for Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Sukabumi, Karawang, Ciamis, and Banjar City on Tuesday, April 25. There is a likelihood of flash floods hitting the regions.

Based on the weather forecast, Bekasi (Bojongmangu and Central Cikarang) and Karawang (Pangkalan, Telukjambe Barat), Depok City (Cipayung, Cilodong, and Sawangan), Bogor (Cibinong, Bojong Gede, Tajur Halang, Caringin, Cigombong), Sukabumi (Sagaranten, Pabuaran, Purabaya), Ciamis (Sadana, Baregbeg, Cipaku, Sukadana, Cijeungjing, and Cisaga), and Banjar City (Banjar, Purwaharja, and Pataruman) have the potential for flash floods caused by rain from Tuesday noon until the early hours of Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Greater Bandung including Bandung City, Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and West Bandung Regency will likely face other hydrometeorological disasters, such as hail and tornadoes.

According to the Head of the BMKG’s Bandung Climatology Station Teguh Rahayu, Greater Bandung has entered the transitional season from April to the first ten days or dasarian of May.

“Medium to heavy rain in a short duration followed by lightning and strong winds are expected [in Greater Bandung],” she said, adding that no active tropical cyclones detected in the archipelago.

BMKG also stated that the wind in the northern part of Indonesia predominantly moved from northeast to east with speeds ranging from 3 - 15 knots. In the southern part, the wind dominantly moved from east to southeast with speeds between 5-25 knots.

This condition caused the potential for high waves on the south coast of West Java to reach up to four meters. This warning was valid until April 26 at 07:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
