TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno targeted the economic impact during the Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran holiday to be between Rp100 trillion - Rp150 trillion. The economic impact increases due to the rising public movement during the Islamic holiday which was predicted by the Transportation Ministry to reach 123.8 million people.

“Last year, there were movements of 85 million people, and the economic impact was Rp72 trillion. So, it can be doubled this year,” Sandiaga said at The Weekly Brief With Sandiaga Uno at the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry Office, on Monday, April 3.

He expressed optimism that tourism during the Eid holiday could help reach the target of 1.4 billion domestic tourist visits this year. At least, he added, 300 to 350 million visits can be recorded. Moreover, the government has set a 7-day joint leave of Eid al-Fitr. “This must be benefited optimally,” he added.

The former deputy governor of Jakarta said that the potential for increased tourist movements must be accompanied by mitigation and anticipation efforts. For travelers, these efforts can be started by preparing a good travel plan.

He also asked travelers not to force themselves to drive for more than 12 hours, especially bus drivers. He opined that people must drive for under 12 hours.

“I urge the Indonesian people and would-be travelers to pay attention to this as a joint effort to maintain safety,” Sandiaga Uno emphasized.
