TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The protest that arose over the participation of the Israel national team in the FIFA U-20 World Cup was notoriously blamed for the subsequent move that saw FIFA revoking Indonesia’s status as a host for the competition.

However, how would this situation fare on other sporting fields such as the 2nd ANOC World Beach Games (AWBG) 2023 in Bali where Israeli athletes would also compete in?

Head of the Indonesian Olympics Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari on Wednesday assured the public that preparations for the event scheduled to be held on August 5-12 are going as planned.

According to Octo, constant communication is held with many stakeholders, including Bali Governor I Wayan Koster who is known to be one of the most prominent voices in rejecting Israel’s participation in the U-20 World Cup.

“From my point of view, communication must be even. I explained it to the governor of Bali. [We explained] that this is not the first time KOI held such an event and that we are experienced and that every sport has its unique statutes,” said Okto at the KOI headquarters on March 29.

The Israeli team has been considered as participants that qualified for the competition’s women’s open water swimming. The 2nd AWBG will see roughly 1,500 athletes from 130 countries compete in Bali later in the year.

“There is no hurdle to date, once again we will fight for the sportsmanship of the sport,” said Okto who remains optimistic that the ANOC World Beach Games 2023 will go on as planned.
