TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta will reopen the train-car special for women starting on Monday, March 27. MRT Jakarta president director Tuhiyat reasoned that there is an increase in the number of passengers that have reached the pre-pandemic level.

"The policy for the women’s only car is the same as before, only on peak hours,” said Tuhiyat on Friday, March 24.

The MRT’s women-only car had been revoked in 2020 due to the jumping of passengers' number to only 1,400 people per day which was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. During its initial operation in March 2019, the number of passengers could reach 100,000 people.

The number of MRT passengers this year continues to increase, reaching the condition before the Coronavirus pandemic, Tuhiyat claimed. In March 2023, the average number reached 92,000 passengers. He is optimistic the figure would increase along with the transition from a pandemic to an endemic.

MRT’s women-only car is available at 07:00-09:00 and at 17:00-19:00. It is in the very front of one train set. This is aimed at preventing sexual abuse, increasing the sense of security for women, and improving services for Ratangga users, especially women. "We will give a special sign in the special train car for women," he said.
