TEMPO.CO, Palu - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Palu City, Central Sulawesi, recorded 10 aftershocks following a 5.8-magnitude earthquake until Monday morning, February 27, 2023.

"As of 10:00 central Indonesian time [WITA], it was recorded that there had been 10 aftershocks. Their locations were different, but the fault that caused them was the same: the Behoa fault," said Sujabar, the BMKG's head of the geophysics station in Palu.

Sujabar explained that so far, there had been no report of damage caused by the quake at 09:26 WITA which was recorded at a magnitude of 5.8. Sujabar also appealed to the public to remain calm and get updated information from the BMKG or the local government.

Head of the SAR and Alert Operations Subsection, Palu Search and Rescue Office, Andi Sultan, said that the shaking was felt strongly by residents of Poso Regency and its surroundings.

"We have also called on the public to check and make sure their houses are safe [no cracks] so that if aftershocks occur, it will not endanger the house's occupants," Andi said.

Andi also said that personnel from Palu SAR Agency and Parigi SAR Agency are on standby and are ready to be mobilized if necessary.
