TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia, said that discrimination against developing countries existed in the development of green energy. Bahlil said thatonly one out of five green energy investments goes to developing countries compared to developed countries.

"Talking about green energy, there is an anomaly in thinking between developed and developing countries. There should be no discrimination between developing and developed countries," Bahlil said on Thursday, February 2, 2023.

Bahlil emphasized that all countries must use new and renewable energy. Therefore, it is necessary to have the same understanding that all nations are equal. Moreover, Bahlil argued that developing a green economy both through the energy transition and sustainable investment is one of the current government's focuses.

The Indonesian government has set a target to reduce carbon emissions by 31.89 percent in 2030 and zero emissions by 2045. The effort is aimed at boosting the country’s economic growth while constantly maintaining the environment.

At the 2023 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting taking place in Davos from January 16-20, 2023, Minister Bahlil called on developed countries to conduct technology transfer to developing countries to provide added value. He underlined that this was fundamental to realizing equity and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
