TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri responded to the call voiced by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan to combat sting operations or OTT. Ali emphasized that the only way to avoid such operations is by not committing corruption.

“So if you stay away from corruption, you won't be caught red-handed,” said Ali in Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

He added that the anti-graft body does not carelessly launch OTT without a clear basis because its duties are regulated in Indonesian laws which require them to possess sufficient preliminary evidence prior to the operations.

“We conduct red-handed activities, of course, this is because we find initial evidence that there are alleged [suspicious] transactions committed by state administrators related to criminal acts of corruption,” he explained.

Luhut Argues Sting Operations Tarnish Indonesia's Image

Minister Luhut has again conveyed a controversial opinion regarding the KPK’s OTT at the Coordination Meeting with Regional Heads and Regional Leadership Communication Forum in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

He called on regional heads to have the courage to combat OTT and encouraged them to switch the management paradigm to digital in a bid to reduce the potential for corruption.

“We have to resist OTT so we can become a dignified country. I think we don’t want our country to become a nation that is accused of not having a good ecosystem that causes corruption,” said Luhut on Tuesday.
