TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK arrested the member of the Democratic Party, Lukas Enembe, in an alleged bribery of Rp1 billion on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. A politician from the Democratic Party, Benny Kabur Harman, said that his party would fully hand over Enembe’s case to the anti-graft agency.

"It is now fully under the authority of the KPK. Please proceed under the applicable law by paying attention to Enembe's right," he said on Wednesday, January 11.

Benny mentioned that his party would continue to support efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia. He stated that corruption is a problem that has rooted deeply in the country. "Corruption is the cause of many people suffering and falling into poverty," Benny said in a written message, Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

He also requested KPK continue to be active in resolving other cases of corruption and investigate any suspects, especially those who involve state officials in the country. "Including on being serious on searching for those who are still listed as fugitives," said the member of Commission III F-Democrat at the House of Representatives.

Lukas Enembe was officially named a suspect by the KPK for alleged bribery and illegal gratuities in several development projects in Papua. Besides Enembe, KPK named another suspect Rijanto Lakka.
