TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that Papua Governor Lukas Enembe temporarily needed medical care. The graft suspect had completed a series of medical examinations at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta.

“That’s the recommendation from the team of doctors who conduct health tests including vital signs, laboratory, and heart,” said the KPK’s head of media Ali Fikri on Wednesday, January 11, in a written statement.

Ali added that the KPK team could not predict when the required health treatment will complete as it is the discretion of the medical team. “But in principle, after the series [of medical care] completed, the examination will instantly be carried out.”

He asserted that the legal process against the suspect will keep running. The anti-graft body will conduct the legal handling procedures according to the prevailing law. “Including upholding the presumption of innocence, respecting human rights, and fulfilling the rights of suspects based on the law,” Ali said.

The Papua Governor was named as a suspect in the alleged bribery case related to a number of infrastructure projects in the province. KPK has thus far named two suspects in the case, the governor and Rijanto Lakka.

Lukas Enembe was arrested in Jayapura on January 10, 2023, and was then taken by air to Jakarta for further examination. On the same, he was brought to RSPAD to undergo a health check.
