TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) would soon impose a new category on the driving license (SIM) for motorcycles, namely SIM C, CI, and CII. Along with lending specific motorcycles for the driving exam of these new licenses.

The classification for SIM C is regulated based on Police Regulation Number 5 of 2021 concerning Issuance and Driving Permits in February 2021, concurrently with the new regulations on driving licenses.

Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident) of Traffic Corps Yusri Yunus said that the traffic corps has prepared new special motorbikes for SIM CI practice exams in all police vehicle registration centers (Satpas) in Indonesia.

The National Police Traffic Corps only had 132 500CC motorbikes for the SIM CI exams, which are going to be distributed.

"There are 468 police vehicle registration centers in Indonesia, the distribution is according to priority," Yusri told Tempo on Friday, January 6, 2023.

Yusri explained that all the new motorbikes for the SIM CI exam had started to be sent to several police vehicle registration centers to facilitate applicants for SIM CI.

He did not explain further the brand and type of motorbike prepared for the practice exam, including the rental fee if there is any.

The three categories of SIM C have different functions and requirements.

SIM C is meant for a license to drive a motorcycle with an engine capacity of up to 250 CC. SIM CI is for motorcycles with engine capacity of 250 to 500 CC, gasoline-powered and electric motorbikes.

The SIM CII is specified for a license to drive a motorbike that is above 500 CC or any similar motorized vehicle that utilizes electric power.

To be eligible for a SIM CI, a person must first acquire a SIM C for at least 12 months.

On the other hand, drivers who wish to have a SIM CII must first have SIM CI for at least 12 months from the time it is issued.
