TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry confirmed that the use of 35 percent biodiesel or B35 will begin to take effect on February 1, 2023.

"The mix of 35 percent biofuel with diesel fuel will take effect on February 1, 2023," the ministry’s Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Director General, Dadan Kusdiana, in a statement quoted in Jakarta on Friday, January 6, 2023.

The policy, which was aimed at increasing the supply of clean energy in a sustainable manner, was stipulated in the ESDM Minister's Decree No. 295.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2022 and No. 205.K/EK.05/DJE/2022.

The decision to implement the B35 program was taken after various considerations, including the availability of supplies of raw materials, especially crude palm oil, the production capacity of biofuel business entities, and the standard that must be met.

The ESDM Ministry projected that there will be an increase in the need for B100 by 1.9 million kiloliters (KL) or equivalent to a reduction in diesel fuel within the same volume.

In 2023, the allocation for biodiesel was set at 3.14 million kiloliters, an increase of around 19 percent compared to last year's allocation of only 11.02 million kiloliters.
