TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that its numeric weather modeling predicts that parts of Indonesian provinces will potentially be drenched under varying degrees of rainfall during New Year’s eve.

“BMKG's numeric weather prediction forecasts parts of Indonesia will see extreme weather for the next couple of days with heavy to extreme rainfall,” said the agency's head Dwikorita Karnawati in an online press conference on Thursday, December 29.

Provinces that are expected to see heavy rainfall from December 30th to January 1st, 2023, include Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, to Nusa Tenggara.

The meteorology agency predicts the atmospheric phenomena that continue to be observed can possibly increase rain intensity in the aforementioned provinces and their neighboring regions. The Asian Monsoon that is still active to this day in the northern hemisphere still contributes to an increase in the intake of wet air masses into the equatorial region, especially around the western part of Indonesia.

BMKG also continues to detect the MJO (Madden Jullian Oscillation) which is still quite active around Indonesia's southern part of the equator. This condition occurs simultaneously with active atmospheric wave phenomena, namely the Kelvin Wave and Rossby Equatorial, in the last week to the next few days. which significantly contributes to increasing the growth of rain clouds
