TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that aftershocks were still occurring in Cianjur, West Java, and Karangasem, Bali. In Cianjur, a month after the major earthquake, aftershocks remain frequent and have exceeded 400 times.

"There have been 417 aftershocks in Cugenang, Cianjur," the BMKG's head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono, posted to his personal social media on Thursday, December 15.

Like his previous posts, Daryono added that "the situation is starting to stabilize."

Daryono also shared the latest data on the Karangasem, which was struck by a M5.1 earthquake on Tuesday afternoon, December 13. Since then, the BMKG has recorded 86 aftershocks.

Daryono also explained that the magnitude 5.1 earthquake was part of the series of earthquakes that caused heavy damage in Lombok in 2018. The earthquakes are "of the same family" based on the mechanism of their source, which has triggered the Flores Thrust Fault activity.

Quoting data from BPBD Karangasem as of December 14, Tuesday's earthquake damaged 102 houses and 27 temples, mostly minor damages. BPBD also recorded four people injured in seven sub-districts.
