TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Police Chief Inspector General Suntana confirmed that 11 people had fallen victim to a suicide bombing at the Astanaanyar Police Station, Bandung, today, December 7, 2022. The incident occurred at around 8:30 western Indonesian time (WIB).

Ten of the victims are police officers and one other is a civilian who was passing around the area. Meanwhile, the suicide bomber was confirmed dead at the location.

“11 people became victims, consisting of 10 police members and one civilian. One policeman Aiptu Sofyan died,” said Suntana at the Astanaanyar Police Station, on Wednesday.

He explained that the suicide bombing took place at around 8:30 local time during a morning assembly. The male bomber tried to approach policemen but was blocked by other officers.

“And he insisted to get close to the police officers, brandished a knife, and then suddenly there was an explosion,” he added.

The Regional Police Chief thus asked for time to reveal the incident as the police are still focused on ensuring the security of the location and the vicinity. “Police will carry out a crime scene examination, checking the location and fingerprints to confirm the identity of the suicide bomber,” Suntana said.
