TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of masses from many workers' organizations will hold a demonstration in front of the Jakarta City Hall starting on Friday, December 2, 2022, until Wednesday, December 7, 2022, next week. The Labor Party demonstration was carried out as a form of rejection of the Jakarta provincial minimum wage (UMP) increase by 5.6 percent.

Based on observation by Tempo, the demonstration started at 10:30 A.M. The organizations joining in the demonstration came from the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), the Federation of Indonesian Metal Worker Unions (FSPMI), to the Garda Metal.

Chief deputy of Jakarta FSPMI, Tri Widyanto, said that he was disappointed with the decision of Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono on establishing Jakarta 2023 minimum wages to only increase by 5.6 percent or up to Rp 4.9 million.

"We, the labor party of Jakarta, are very disappointed with the Acting Governor's decision, if we look at the current Jakarta inflation alone, we estimate that by December it could reach 4 percent, while Jakarta's economic growth until last October was already 5.7 percent," said Tri Widyanto in front of the City Hall on Friday, December 2, 2022.

Tri stated that the Jakarta minimum wage demanded by the workers was 10.5 percent, and it's in line with what was conveyed by the wage council from elements of the trade unions. This is under what has been conveyed in the meeting of the board of wages.

"The proper percentage for Jakarta minimum wage is 13 percent, but yesterday, we tolerated it, we did not demand a raise to 13 percent. Currently, we decided to demand 10.55 percent," he said.

According to him, the 5.6 percent minimum wage increase is not comparable to Jakarta's status as the capital city of Indonesia because the cost of living is higher than in other regions.

"In Karawang or Bekasi, it is certain that the wages will be Rp 5.1 million to Rp 5.2 million, while Jakarta has decided that it will be Rp 4.9 million. This is what drove us to take our stand today," said Tri.

The current demands brought in the demonstration include:

1. Reject Jakarta Governor regulation No. 1153 of 2022 concerning 2023 Jakarta minimum wages

2. Increase the 2023 Jakarta minimum wage to 10.55 percent.

3. Establish inflation and economic growth as a reference for setting the 2023 wages.

4. Reject Omnibus Law / Job Creation Law
