TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The life expectancy of Jakarta residents continues to increase for the past 10 years. The Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the life expectancy in the capital increased by 1.29 years from 72.03 in 2012 to 73.32 this year.

“On average, life expectancy has increased by 0.18 percent per year,” said BPS Jakarta head Anggoro Dwitjahyono as quoted from Antara, Thursday, December 1, 2022.

The figure hike showed that the health status of the Jakartans in general is getting better.

Anggoro explained that life expectancy means a child born in the city today is expected to live until the age of 73.32 years.

Compared to the previous year, life expectancy reached 73.01 years or grew by 0.42 percent to 73.32 years in 2022. This figure is about 1.5 years higher than the national life expectancy of 71.85 years.

The increase in life expectancy in Jakarta helped boost its human development index (IPM) to reach 81.65, or an increase of 0.67 percent compared to 2021 at 81.11 percent.

This figure places Jakarta in the first position in Indonesia's human development index, exceeding the average national index of 72.91 percent.
