TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Workers Union Association (ASPEK Indonesia) urged Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono to revise the recently-enacted policy on the 2023 provincial minimum wage (UMP) which was set at Rp4.9 million.

“The new governor's decree needs to be issued immediately by taking into account the recommendations of the Jakarta Wage Council from workers' unions,” said ASPEK Indonesia President Mirah Sumirat in a written statement, Thursday, December 1, 2022.

Mirah recommended the salary hike of 10.5 percent or to be Rp5.1 million, as stated by the workers' union at the Wage Council meeting held on Tuesday, November 23, at the Jakarta City Hall.

ASPEK Indonesia had voiced its rejection of the next year’s minimum wage which only increased by 5.6 percent or Rp4.9 million because it is still far from the cost of proper living for workers in the capital city.

“How is it possible for workers to meet their needs if the UMP increase is still far below inflation and economic growth? This means workers will always be poor and will not be able to meet their minimum living needs,” said Mirah.

Jakarta Announces the 2023 UMP at Rp4,901,798

The provincial government set the 2023 minimum wage at Rp4,901,798, an increase of 5.6 percent compared to the 2022 UMP. This was as proposed during the November 22 meeting and was in line with the Manpower Minister’s Regulation (Permenaker) No. 18 of 2022.
