TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad on Wednesday said House legislators have agreed with the government’s proposal to revise the New Capital City Law (UU IKN) after a thorough study.

According to Dasco, one of the reasons for the revision of the New Capital City Law is that it is hoped that fundraising would be easier after the IKN Law is revised.

"To make the timing of the implementation correct, and to smoothen the process of collecting funds," said Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on November 30.

The Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly also said that the proposal to include the revision of the IKN Law was a directive from President Joko Widodo.

He implied that it was urgent to speed up the process of preparing for the transfer of the New Capital and the administration of the new city’s special regional government.

In the House meeting with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, there were 6 factions in agreement with the government’s proposal to include the IKN Bill in the 2023 priority programs. The legislators are from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the National Awakening Party (PKB), the United Development Party (PPP), and the Gerindra Party.

Meanwhile, two factions rejected this proposal, namely the Democratic Party and the Prosperous Justice Party, while NasDem Party chose to abstain.
