TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police traffic director grand commissioner Latif Usman revealed that many motorists have either taken off the number plates from their vehicles or falsified number plates to avoid the police's electronic ticketing (or e-ticketing system| ETLE).

"On average, motorcyclists would not install number plates, and there are cars that have falsified license plates. We will put an end to this. Vehicles will be impounded if drivers fail to show correct ownership papers," said Latif at his office on Monday, November 28, 2022.

He also asserted that motorcyclists using fake plates will also be subjected to manual ticketing in the field as he fears these types of vehicles can potentially be vehicles involved in crimes.

Based on data from the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, from January to October 2022, 548,841 motorists were ticketed manually. As for ETLE, as many as 100,965 motorists were fined.
