Vladimir Putin Offers Condolences to Jokowi over Cianjur Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed condolences to Indonesia after a powerful earthquake that struck the Cianjur Regency of West Java yesterday. Putin sent his message of condolences to President Joko Widodo via the Russian Embassy on Tuesday.

"Please accept my deepest condolences on the lives lost and great damages caused by the earthquake in West Java province," Putin said in a statement released by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Indonesia, Tuesday, November 22.

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake centered in Cianjur Regency shook the area on Monday noon, November 21. The strong, shallow land quake was felt all the way in Jakarta, some 75 kilometers from the epicenter.

At the time of this publication, the disaster is reported to have taken at least 260 lives and injured hundreds more, and displaced over 7,000 people.

In his condolence message, Putin extended his heartfelt sympathy and support to the families and relatives of the deceased. He also expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery to everyone affected by this disaster.
