TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake shook the Banda Sea at magnitude 5.2 on Tuesday, November 15, at 14:03 western Indonesia time (WIB). Fortunately, the quake did not trigger any tsunami but shocks could be felt up to the IV MMI scale.

"The Banda Sea Region, Maluku, was rocked by a tectonic earthquake," said the acting head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono, in a written statement on Tuesday.

The quake was centered at a depth of 251 kilometers and 250 kilometers northeast of Southwest Maluku. "This type of medium-sized earthquake is caused by the subduction activity of the Banda Sea," said Daryono.

Based on the estimation of the shock map made by the BMKG, the tremor was felt in Amahai, Central Maluku, with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI. As is known, on the MMI IV scale, the earthquake will be felt by many people in the house during the day.
