TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A mass of workers from the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) Jakarta held yet another demonstration in front of the City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, November 11, 2022.

Tempo observed that the crowd arrived at 10:20 local time. The Jakarta KSPI chairman Winarso voiced the demand for an increase in the 2023 provincial minimum wage (UMP) by at least 13 percent.

“We ask the provincial government to increase the Jakarta UMP by 13 percent. The 13 percent is calculated based on economic growth and inflation. The inflation tends to reach 6.5 percent plus economic growth,” said Winarso.

There were reportedly about 400 workers joining the rally. “Around 400 workers have just arrived, we are still waiting for friends who have already headed to the location (City Hall),” he said.

The demands issued during the demonstration include:

1. Rejection of Government Regulation (PP) No. 36 of 2021 as a reference for the 2023 salary hike;
2. The legal basis for determining the salary hike in 2023 must refer to inflation and economic growth;
3. Increasing the minimum wage in 2023 by 13 percent;
4. Rejecting the Omnibus Law or Law on Job Creation; and
5. Rejecting layoffs with the threat of a global recession.
