TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasizes that Indonesia continues to take concrete steps to resolve the climate crisis through various strategic efforts, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions significantly.

The matter was delivered by the Vice President in his statement to the media at the Indonesian Pavilion, Sharm El Sheikh Convention Centre, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, Tuesday, November 8, 2022, after attending the Climate Change Summit (COP27), according to a press release received in Jakarta early Wednesday morning. November 9, 2022.

"Indonesia continues to strive to lead by example through various positive efforts, such as increasing the target of Indonesia's emission reduction in the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution to 31.89 percent with self capabilities and 43.20 percent with international support," said Ma' Ruf Amin.

According to the Vice President, Indonesia as the host of the 2022 G20 Presidency and head of ASEAN in 2023, have a strategic position in collaborating for climate change management.

He gave an example of the importance of cooperation and collaboration in confronting a crisis when no country can deal with the Covid pandemic independently. "Collaboration and cooperation must be made into an understanding, during the pandemic, not a single country was able to work alone," he said.

Furthermore, the Vice President expressed that the increase in Indonesia's emission reduction target is in line with significant development in Indonesia's policies, such as expanding nature conservation and restoration, implementing a carbon tax, achieving Forestry and Other Land Uses (FOLU) Net-Sink 2030, developing an electric vehicle ecosystem, and initiating B40 biodiesel program.

Afterwards, the Vice President continued to ensure funding for the energy transition, and Indonesia established the Country Platform for Energy Transition Mechanism. However, according to him, all these efforts need to be accompanied by clear international support, including the creation of an effective and equitable carbon market, investment for energy transition, and funding for climate action.

"As the host of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia continues to urge for a green recovery and strong and inclusive climate action," he said.

On that occasion, the Vice President also emphasized that all countries participating in the Climate Changes summit (COP27) must take concrete steps to tackle climate change.

He also affirms the importance of maintaining an Archipelagic state from sinking. Therefore, he also invited the international community to give more support and attention to the archipelagic country. "We want to invite the international community to take regard on the issue of archipelagic countries," said Ma'ruf Amin.
