TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The G20 Summit in Bali is considered to provide benefits to the economy and infrastructure.

The Bali chapter chief of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI), Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana, stated that G20 Summit offered a 1.5-2 times greater benefit in aggregate than the World Bank IMF (International Monetary Fund) Annual Meeting in Bali in 2018.

“One of the positive impacts ahead of the event is the increase in hotel rooms occupancy in the area where the event will be held and the vicinities,” he said in an online press conference of #G20updates in Jakarta, Saturday, October 29.

Ahead of the peak event, hotel occupancy increased significantly to 45.96 percent. He is optimistic that the figure will continue to rise during the G20 event in Nusa Dua and the surrounding areas.

"Logistically, there will be an overflow of visitors from the event in Nusa Dua. Due to the closure of the area for G20, the visitors that are supposed to stay in Nusa Dua will be moved to other locations, such as Ubud and Sanur. The overflow will benefit the tourism sector," said Ida Bagus.

Besides the economic benefit, Bali also got an infrastructure bonus. The central government reportedly has spent Rp526.54 billion to revamp the areas of Nusa Dua, Sanur, and Ubud.

The destinations outside of Nusa Dua that are predicted to be flocked by visitors during the G20 Summit include Uluwatu, Penglipuran Tourist Village, and Ubud.

Another positive impact of the global event is the improved reputation of Bali as journalists from 26 countries will come to the island to make coverages about Bali.

“This will bring back Bali's image as a feasible and safe place as a tourist destination,” Ida Bagus remarked.
