TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of political party PSI Giring Ganesha paid a visit to the National Mandate Party (PAN) Jakarta headquarters on Thursday. Reports suggested that the two organizations dwelled in the discussion to prevent the recurrence of politicians politicizing religion in the upcoming 2024 general election (Pemilu).

“We collectively agree in going against religious politicization in the 2024 general elections. We surely do not want to see a repeat of 2019,” said PAN secretary-general Eddy Soepartno following the meeting.

This meeting, according to Eddy, is a gesture of symbiotic mutualism between the seasoned and newest political parties. He hopes this meeting could seek mutually beneficial relations between the two parties too.

"We also hope that this is a symbiotic mutualism. We want to seek a mutually beneficial relationship," he said.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed possibly establishing a coalition. Giring Ganesha considers PSI and the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB) to have many similarities. "We think that together with KIB we have a lot in common," said Giring.
