TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The wife and son of Papua Governor Lukas Enembe did not comply with the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) summons regarding the corruption case involving Lukas who has been named as a suspect. They were absent for no reason. “That's the information we received,” said the KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

Lukas' wife Yulce Wenda and son Astract Bona Timoramo were supposed to undergo an examination at the KPK building in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. According to Ali, they did not attend the call without submitting any reason to the investigators.

For this absence, Ali asked all parties to cooperate and reminded all not to influence people to skip the anti-graft institution's summons. “There are legal sanctions,” he underlined.

Lukas is suspected of receiving bribes and gratuities in projects financed by the Papua Regional Budget totaling Rp1 billion. KPK is also investigating reports from the Financial Transaction and Analysis Reporting Center (PPATK) on Lukas’ fat bank accounts. PPATK has blocked a number of bank accounts belonging to Lukas and his family.

To date, the KPK has not examined Lukas. The Papua Governor has skipped the KPK summons twice due to poor health conditions.

A spokesperson for the Governor, Muhammad Rifai Darus, denied that Lukas had committed corruption. “During his 10 years as governor, he never received money from businessmen,” said Rifai.

Lukas Enembe's lawyer, Stefanus Roy Rening, also stated that his client could explain the odd financial transactions as claimed by PPATK. He argued that Lukas had an illegal gold mine in Mamit, Tolikara Regency, Papua, which was claimed to be legally licensed soon.
