TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) deployed 267 quick response team or TRC personnel to deal with flooding at a number of points in the capital, Tuesday evening.

“Jakarta Siaga 112 emergency service is ready to serve people in an emergency due to heavy rains,” the agency head Isnawa Adji said in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 4, 2022, as quoted from Antara.

The agency also coordinated with the Water Resources Agency, the Bina Marga Agency, the Public Facility Maintenance Agency (PPSU), the Environment Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Agency.

Isnawa said his side pumped out the floodwater in flooded areas and made sure the water channel functioned properly. The agency also kept monitoring the flooding through its Disaster Command Center Room. Isnawa ensured that coordination between agencies was going well to tackle the flooding.

As of 4 p.m., the Jakarta BPBD recorded that 7 roads and 16 neighborhood units (RT) were inundated, or 0.053 percent of the total 30,470 RT in the city, due to heavy rain and overflow of Kali Krukut and Kali Mampang. The water level was 40 centimeters high.

BMKG Warns Potential Extreme Weather in Jakarta Until October 8

Floods in Jakarta occurred due to extreme weather. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected the Madden Jullian Oscillation (MJO) phenomenon interacting with the Equatorial Rossby wave and the Kelvin wave which has the potential to increase rain clouds growth in several parts of Indonesia in the next few days.

Under these phenomena, the agency forecasted the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall with lightning and strong winds in the capital and its vicinity areas on October 2-8, 2022.

The public is advised to stay alert to extreme weather that may cause hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, puddles, landslides, strong winds, and fallen trees.

The Jakarta BPBD added that the latest flood information is accessible through https://pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id/peta-banjir-berbasiskan-rt.
