Jokowi Sends US$1mn in Aid for Pakistan Flood Response

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government sent US$1 million in support for Pakistan following severe floods and landslides. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo saw the delivery of the aid today, September 26, 2022.

The government also sent goods consisting of basic necessities such as tents, clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, generators, and medicines using two planes.

"To ease the burden on our brothers and sisters in Pakistan and as a form of international solidarity," said the President during the send-off of the humanitarian aid at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta on Monday, September 26, 2022.

Jokowi ensured that the government would send more assistance at the request of the Pakistani government. "I am also preparing to deploy health workers to provide medical services to Pakistani citizens affected by the disasters," the President added.

The severe flooding in Pakistan has affected thousands of people, based on the latest data released on Thursday, September 15, 2022. The Pakistani authorities are trying to increase aid for citizens. In its latest release, Pakistan's National Disaster Mitigation Authority reported a death toll reaching up to 1,486, including 530 children.

Jokowi hoped that the provided assistance could help the people in Pakistan to recover and return to their normal activities soon. Jokowi also expressed his deep condolences for the loss caused by the disasters.
