TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Environmental Agency has mobilized 5,000 personnel for the water body sanitation unit to manage the Ciliwung river’s trash filter facility located at the TB Simatupang segment.
“We have sufficient people that we can mobilize,” said Jakarta Environmental Agency Head Asep Kuswanto in monitoring the construction of the Ciliwung trash filter on Monday, September 26.
The amount of trash that arrives from the Ciliwung current into the Jakarta area is expected to reach 52 tons on a daily basis. This causes trash to enter inner-city rivers and clog floodgates such as the one in Manggarai.
This issue has caused problems once the capital city experiences the peak rainy season as rivers overflow and trashes narrowing the space for water to flow freely.
Jakarta builds a waste filtering facility for the Ciliwung
For this reason, the Jakarta Government has built a waste filtering facility for the Ciliwung River which is located on the border of Jakarta and the buffer zone, precisely in the TB Simatupang segment between Pasar Rebo in East Jakarta and Jagakarsa in South Jakarta.
The facility that is constructed with an Rp195 billion budget is aimed to be completed in December this year and is estimated to process 40 cubic meters of trash that go through the facility.
