TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two strong earthquakes hit Indonesia's western and eastern regions with an interval of 1 minute on early Saturday, September 24.

A magnitude 5.4 quake jolted Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, at 03:51 western Indonesia time (WIB). The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded that the quake was centered at 5.19 South Latitude and 125.59 East Longitude, at the depth of 10 km.

A minute later, precisely at 03:52 WIB, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook Meulaboh, Aceh. The temporary data recorded that it was located at the depth of 22 km. The shaking was felt at level IV of the MMI scale in Meulaboh, South Aceh, and Nagan Raya.

BMKG reported that both temblors did not trigger a tsunami.

Dozens of people from Banda Aceh, Bireuen, Labuhanhaji, Pidie, Takengon, Langsa, and Medan commented on BMKG's social media that they felt quite a strong quake, waking them from their sleep.
