TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - From 2018, the Jakarta's Water Resources Service (SDA) has been dredging mud in eight rivers that contribute to flooding in the capital city. Governor Anies Baswedan said that throughout those five years, a total of 2.5 million cubic meters of mud has been dredged.
"To date, the DKI Jakarta SDA Department is still dredging a number of rivers in Jakarta to compress mud deposits," Anies said at City Hall during a dissemination event on detailed spatial planning (RDTR) on September 21, Antara reported.
Anies said that flooding is still a challenge in Jakarta given the unusually high intensity of rainfall that can occur in a very short time. Dredging mod deposits or silts will provide space or capacity for a larger volume of water, thus minimizing water overflow.
The governor said that in addition to dredging, works to control flood in the capital also include the construction of six reservoirs, four of which are in the final stages.
The capital government is also working on the construction of nine new pumping systems, two kilometers of coastal embankments and 28,000 vertical drainages.
