TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in his weekly brief on Monday announced that he intends to replace the current conventional modes of transportation in tourism sites with electric vehicles. He said that this aligns with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s instructions regarding green tourism.

"This is of course in line with Presidential Instruction number 7 of 2022," said Sandiaga on Monday, September 19.

The presidential instruction states the use of battery-based motorized vehicles (battery electric vehicles) as operational service vehicles.

With the use of electric vehicles, Sandiaga hopes that tourism in Indonesia in the future can be more environmentally friendly so that it is of higher quality. "At the G20, we have encouraged the use of electric vehicles and we are targeting Bali by 2030 to use electric vehicles," he said.

Sandiaga Uno noted that this has been implemented at Pagar Alam City in South Sumatra, which has used new and renewable energy (EBT) and is one of the first to hone the zero-emission city status.

Pagar Alam City has three EBT plants, namely the Green Lahat Mini-hydro Power Plant (PLTM) with a capacity of 9.99 Megawatts, the Lumut Balai Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) with a capacity of 55 Megawatts, and the Rantau Dedap PLTP with a capacity of 91.2 Megawatts.
