TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday clarified about its latest summoning of Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan, which resulted in rumors suggesting the governor had been named a suspect in links to the Formula E race that the capital city hosted earlier this year. The anti-graft watchdog firmly denounced the rumor.

“Let me clarify that it is not true,” said KPK deputy chairman Alexander Marwata on September 14, Antaranews reported.

KPK assures that the investigation of the case is still ongoing and that there have been no suspects named yet.

The Jakarta governor was summoned to the KPK headquarters on Wednesday last week (7/9) to provide the agency with his statement surrounding the Formula E race held in June.

"Earlier we were asked to provide assistance with information and it has been conveyed. God willing, with the information that we have conveyed, it will be able to make it clear so that the issues being studied will become clear and make it easier for the KPK to carry out their duties," said the governor.

However, Anies Baswedan was reluctant to elaborate further on what KPK investigators had clarified. He just said he was happy to be able to help the KPK again.

"I want to say that I am very happy to be able to help the KPK again in carrying out its duties. We always try to be able to help the KPK even before serving in the government,” he said at the time.
