TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati ensured that the government will keep providing capital assistance for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including those managed by women.
Sri said all forms of state financial assistance have been disbursed to date because the government believes that women play a major role in determining the progress of the country.
This means from an economic point of view, women entrepreneurs must be protected.
“We understand that the role of women in a country will greatly determine the progress of the country,” said Sri at the International Conference on Women and Sharia Community Empowerment on Monday, August 11, 2022.
The former managing director of the World Bank continued that women in Indonesia also have to often help their family's economy. Apart from having a career in companies, many women run their businesses in the capacity of MSMEs.
“64 million MSMEs in Indonesia are part of the economy which is very active in determining job opportunities and equitable distribution of welfare so it is the government's role in strengthening MSMEs,” the state treasurer said.
Sri Mulyani said among the fiscal instruments used by the government to encourage the growth of MSMEs are the final income tax exemption at 0.5 percent for a certain turnover and a business center that helps them to conduct exports.
