TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communications and Information (Kominfo) Minister Johnny Plate said he was aware of the opinions of netizens regarding the enforcement of the electronic system operators (PSE) policy.

“I am paying attention to the opinions of netizens and I am grateful for the opinions of netizens,” said Johnny before reporters at the Election Commission (KPU) office, Jakarta, Monday, August 1, 2022.

The statement was made in response to the trending hashtag #BlokirKominfo (block the ministry) on Twitter after the ministry blocked a number of online platforms and websites, such as Steam and PayPal.

The ministry, Johnny also said, had unblocked a number of sites temporarily, including PayPal. “This opportunity was given with a note that we will coordinate so that a registration via online single submission can be done,” he explained.

Thus, he encouraged netizens, along with the public, observers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the media to push electronic system operators in Indonesia to fulfill their obligations to follow the country’s laws. “This registration is not a permit and can be done very simply.”

When asked about online gambling sites, the NasDem party politician asserted that there is no room for online gambling platforms to operate in Indonesia as it violates the law.

“Kominfo cleans up [illegal platforms], including online gambling, radicalism, terrorism, pornography, specifically child pornography, and other illegal trades in the digital space,” said Johnny.
