TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Aerofood Indonesia, or Aerofood ACS, which is Garuda Indonesia’s caterer, issued a public statement regarding the recent layoff of hundreds of its employees.

Aerofood ACS President Director I Wayan Susena said the layoffs were the impact of the human resource optimization program. The company had previously issued a program to adjust the number of contract and apprentice employees.

"Early retirement program in 2020 and 2021, including normal employee retirement program without replacement, deduction from wages for permanent employees, and maximum efficiency of all facilities," he said in a written statement, Thursday, July 28, 2022.

Wayan claimed that the program prioritized constructive and open discussions on the condition of business performance which was experiencing its worst phase in the history of the company's operations.

"Management expects all parties to synergize so that together they can save Aerofood ACS so that they are able to continue to run their business in the future," he said.

Wayan said that at least 138 permanent employees of Aerofood ACS were affected by this policy. "This is a big decision that we have to make with careful consideration of efforts to ensure Aerofood ACS remains afloat in the midst of its performance pressure," said Wayan.

Aerofood Indonesia, said Wayan, continues to maximize performance recovery steps after completing the Debt Payment Obligation Suspension (PKPU) process. The homologation decision was read at the Commercial Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on July 26, 2022.

The completion of the PKPU process, he said, became one of the important phases in the effort to improve the performance of Aerofood ACS, which now has to maximize its business continuity through a comprehensive restructuring of business performance, including through human resource management.

”A comprehensive restructuring for the company, including optimizing HR governance, is an unavoidable part,” he added.

As previously reported, 152 employees of PT Aerofood Indonesia rejected the termination of employment by the Garuda Indonesia catering company. They judged that the management had unilaterally fired the employees.
