Bengkulu Hit by Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake, BMKG Reports

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck the region of Bengkulu on Wednesday morning (06:46 WIB), according to the latest report by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Based on the data, the quake originated 68 kilometers Southwest of Bengkulu from a depth of 16 kilometers. Fortunately, the agency said it has not sparked a tsunami warning despite the strength of the earthquake.

The earthquake was classified as IV-V on the MMI scale which was felt at Bengkulu City, Kepahiang, North Bengkulu, Muko-muko, and Krui. Other neighboring regions that felt the earthquake were Muara Dua, Lubuk Linggau, and Musi Rawas, though with a lesser degree of strength.
